PhD Preparation Initiative
It is one of the specialized programs launched by the Deanship of Development and Quality Assurance, which contributes to preparing and equipping the university’s male and female researchers holding a Master’s degree who wish to pursue their studies at prestigious international universities.
This program helps participants to enter the doctoral stage early by simulating the actual academic and research environment in the desired universities — starting from obtaining admission, through the required research and academic efforts, and ending with the completion of graduation requirements.
- Getting to know the prestigious international universities recommended for study.
- Learning about the admission requirements of prestigious international universities and how to meet them.
- Understanding the methods, mechanisms, and tools of scientific research.
- Developing academic writing skills.
- Learning the best ways to choose an academic supervisor and manage the relationship with them.
- Guiding participants on how to choose an academic field of interest and define a thesis title.
- Understanding what a research proposal is and how to write it.
Requirements for Implementing the Initiative
- Qualified trainers.
- Expert professors who graduated from prestigious universities.
- A well-equipped training hall for both men and women.
- Preparation, planning, implementation, and supervision.
Lecturers (male and female) who wish to pursue their studies at prestigious universities abroad.
Importance of the Initiative
Lecturers who aspire to complete their doctoral studies need early preparation to qualify for advanced studies in prestigious universities.
Implementation Activities
A series of training sessions in the field of scientific research, where each training session included:
- A presentation of the academic material.
- A booklet for the academic material (between 20–30 pages).
- Accompanying activities related to the presentation.
- Assignments.
- References related to the training session topic.
Participants were also divided into tracks according to their academic specializations:
- Humanities and Literature Track.
- Scientific and Medical Track.
- Engineering and Computing Track.
Summary of Achievements and Number of Beneficiaries
Day One:
- An open dialogue and discussion between participants and three professors who graduated from prestigious universities.
- A seminar entitled “World-Class Universities with Advanced Global Rankings at the Institutional and Program Levels and Their Admission Requirements.”
Day Two:
- Training Session 1: Fundamentals of Scientific Research.
- Training Session 2: Managing the Relationship with the Academic Supervisor: Responsibilities and Expectations.
Day Three:
- Training Session 3: Defining the Area of Interest, Choosing a Supervisor, and Selecting a Thesis Title.
- Training Session 4: Writing the Research Proposal.
The total number of participants reached 102, including 29 male lecturers and 73 female lecturers.

- Selecting appropriate supervisors.
- Enrolling many participants in doctoral programs.
